What is Krystol Technology – Best Concrete Waterproofing Practices

30th Dec 2020 Concrete Waterproofing by Abdul Momin

PraKRYTON INDIA WATERPRPOOFINGcticing waterproofing in India has always been a painstaking task for builders and architects. However, if we explore more, we have a lot of reliable waterproofing technologies that make concrete-waterproofing easy and effective, whether it is basement waterproofing, roof waterproofing, bathroom waterproofing, joint repair, leakage issues, or anything related to it.  Crystalline-based waterproofing or Krystol Technology is one of these widely accepted technologies in the current concrete industry. Krystol technology lowers the cost of concrete waterproofing by up to 40% and saves weeks of the construction schedule. Unlike old-fashioned external waterproofing membrane systems, which rely on a surface coating or cover to shield concrete for moisture, Krystol works within the concrete matrix to create a permanent watertight structure. When applied to concrete, Krystol reacts with water and unhydrated cement particles to form millions of microscopic needle-like crystals. These crystals fill the naturally occurring microscopic voids and go deep within the concrete blocking the pathways for water and harmful contaminants. The incoming water triggers the crystallization process and additional crystals begin to grow, filling cracks and so maintains the structures life. Krystol growth appears as a fine white crystal similar to the formation seen on the outside of a concrete block. Let’s know more about how exactly Krystol works with concrete. When water enters Krystol treated concrete, the crystallization process begins at the microscopic level deep within the pores of the concrete matrix. The result is a self-sealing structure that provides a powerful defense against water damage and corrosion of reinforcing steel paths for harmful moisture and aggressive chemicals that are blocked permanently in Krystol treated concrete. There are three primary methods of applying Krystol technology to concrete as an admixture to new concrete.

  • Using Krystol Internal Membrane™, or KIM that is a hydrophilic crystalline waterproofing admixture in dry powdered form, effective in creating waterproof concrete at the time of mixing of concrete.
  • Krystol Broadcast is a crystalline waterproofing treatment for concrete flatwork that replaces the need for conventional membrane waterproofing systems (Sprinkle on horizontal concrete).
  • Using Krystol T1 and T2 for concrete structures used to protect against the ingress of water and for coating on existing concrete surfaces for negative side waterproofing (Brush application).

So whether it’s new construction or upgrading an existing structure for repairing leaks, crystalline based concrete waterproofing systems will help you build quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness into the concrete. We at Kryton are with you every step of the way to ensure your project is a complete success. You can contact Kryton India Waterproofing Experts for free advice on best waterproofing practices.
